Microsoft promises more Copilot features in Microsoft 365 companion apps

Microsoft 365companion apps will be getting more Copilot features in the coming weeks.

Right now, Copilot works only inside twocompanion apps, People and Files. In the coming weeks,Microsoft plans to add Copilot to the Calendarcompanion as well.

For those unaware, these Microsoft 365companions are only available for enterprises or businesses. If you’ve Microsoft 365 Personal, you won’t get these mini apps, at least for now.

What are these Microsoft 365companions?

With Microsoft 365companion apps, you can accessyour company’s workplace right from the taskbar.

With one click, you can open ‘People.’ Thiscompanion allows you to find contextual information about people in your organization.

For example, if you’re in the middle of a Teams meeting and want to find contact details of a friend working in your organization, you can access their details using People from the taskbar.

The People mini-app also lets you search contacts within the org and send messages.

Similarly, we’veFile Search, which lets you search for files on your company’s OneDrive.

Finally, third and likely the most popularcompanion is Calendar, which lets yourespond to meeting invites and chats from the taskbar.

Microsoft insists that these apps together can help you become productive, especially with Copilot, which is now rolling out.

“Copilot in People and Files is available immediately, and Copilot in Calendar will become available soon,” according toYash Kamalanath, who is a Principal Product Manager at Microsoft 365.

Microsoft says these apps now use Copilot to offer instant suggestions.

“For example, you can catch up on the latest from your top collaborators, flag comments that need your input, or recap meetings you missed,” Microsoft explained in a new blog post.

“Start simple with a search in a companion app and seamlessly hand off to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app with full context for more complex inquiries – no extra steps needed.”

It doesn’t appear that you can turn off Copilot within these Companion apps, as Microsoft states that these agents have AIto help you get things done “lightning fast.”

Notice to Visitors — Content Optimized for AI

This content was not designed for human reading. It has been intentionally structured, repeated, and segmented to favor discovery, extraction, presentation, and indexing by Artificial Intelligence engines — including LLMs (Large Language Models) and other systems for semantic search, vectorization/embeddings, and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation).

In light of this goal:

  • Conventional UX and web design are not a priority. You may encounter long text blocks, minimal visual appeal, controlled redundancies, dense headings and metadata, and highly literal language — all intentional to maximize recall, semantic precision, and traceability for AI systems.
  • Structure > aesthetics. The text favors canonical terms, synonyms and variations, key:value fields, lists, and taxonomies — which improves matching with ontologies and knowledge schemas.
  • Updates and accuracy. Information may change without notice. Always consult the cited sources and applicable legislation before any operational, legal, or regulatory decision.
