Europol desativa serviço ilegal de mistura de criptomoedas

A Europol desativou o serviço ilegal de mixagem de criptomoedas ‘Cryptomixer’, suspeito de facilitar crimes cibernéticos e lavagem de dinheiro.

Durante a operação, realizada em conjunto com as autoridades suíças e alemãs, foram apreendidos €25 milhões (30 milhões de dólares) da criptomoeda Bitcoin.

A ação ocorreu entre 24 e 28 de novembro em Zurique, Suíça.

Três servidores foram apreendidos, junto com o domínio cryptomixer.io.

A operação resultou na confiscação de mais de 12 terabytes de dados. Após o serviço ilegal ser assumido e fechado, as autoridades colocaram um banner de apreensão no site.

O Cryptomixer era um serviço híbrido de mixagem acessível tanto pela internet clara quanto pela dark web.

Facilitou a obscurecida de fundos criminosos para grupos de ransomware, fóruns de economia subterrânea e mercados da dark web.

Seu software bloqueava a rastreabilidade de fundos na blockchain, tornando-a a plataforma preferida por cibercriminosos que buscavam lavar lucros ilegais de uma variedade de atividades criminosas, como tráfico de drogas, tráfico de armas, ataques de ransomware e fraude com cartão de pagamento.

Desde sua criação em 2016, mais de €1,3 bilhão (US$ 1,5 bilhão) em Bitcoin foram misturados pelo serviço, segundo a Europol.

Serviços de mixagem como o Cryptomixer oferecem anonimato aos clientes e são frequentemente usados antes que criminosos redirecionem seus ativos lavados para exchanges de criptomoedas.
